Brian, John and Elaine flex their secret mutant movie powers and tackle the latest entry into the ever expanding and ever confusing continuity X-Men film series with Bryan Singer's X-men Apocalypse.  Does the film hold up to the caliber of Day's of Future Past or First Class?  Or are we looking at the likes of a Last Stand or Wolverine: Origins?  Strap in and find out.

Lucasfilm orders reshoots for Star Wars: Rogue One.  Is the film in trouble?

X-Men Apocalypse - Key Points

Good Points

Very fun summer popcorn movie.
Features a good amount of comic book source material (Dark Phoenix Saga/Age of Apocalypse).
Lots of very pretty CGI (if you are into that sort of thing)

"Meh" Points

Not much joy in this movie as the characters are generally just going through the motions.
Minimal 80's references as compared to Days of Future Past.
Quicksilver's character arc sucks.  He wastes a perfect moment to reveal to Magneto that he is his son when his entire motivation for the film was to tell him that he is his son.
Apocalypse is wasted as a villain when compared to other media's interpretation (Age of Apocalypse and X-Men animated TV Show).

General X-Men Continuity Fuckery

Never revealed why Mystique was Striker at the end of Days of Future Past and how the real Striker got Wolverine.
Apocalypse pretty much helps fix the glaring continuity problem from X-Men (2000) where Xavier mentions that Magneto helped build Cerebro.  At the end of the film, Magneto and Jean Grey are seen rebuilding Xavier's mansion which includes Cerebro.
