What happens when Henry Selick, the Director of a Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, and James and The Giant Peach decides to create a live action film? You get the insanity that is Monkeybone. This dark fantasy/gross out comedy stars Brendan Fraser, Bridgette Fonda, the voice of John Tutoro, and zombie Chris Kattan and when it released in 2001, it failed at the box office and marked the short end to Henry Selick’s live action career. But does this movie deserve all the hate? And are there elements of Monkeybone that critics in 2001 just didn’t get?
